A State Ball was held in Helsinki's new railway station building on September 18, 1863. Emperor Alexander II and the Grand Dukes Alexander, Konstantin, Wladimir and Alexei also attended the dance. The court painter M. A. Zichy composed a painting of the people attending the dance for the Emperor, based on a sketch by August Mannerheim.

Mannerheim had designed the decoration of the hall and was one of the two masters of ceremonies. He is in the right foreground in the picture, wearing a chamberlain's uniform. In the middle of the back row, next to the bearded Count Adlerberg, is Mannerheim's cousin, Lady Colonel Aurora Karamzin.
