After Peter I had
seized autocratic power and accomplished his
trip known as the Great Deputation in Western
European states, new relations were
principally formed between Russia and the
European states. The European atmosphere and
lifestyle began to spread in Russia.
During the reign of
Peter the Great Russia Europe represented the
example which the whole of enlightened Russia
tried to imitate. This could be seen in all
important areas of living. At the time of
Peter I emphasis was given to changing the
thinking style of the Russian people. |

The raising of "Europeans" consisted
of new requirements for Russians which often
were clearly at odds with ordinary life.
Peter I changed
Russia`s life to an essential extent: in his
day the first Russian newspaper was published,
the first Russian museum was opened, the
system of chronology was changed, the printing
of secular literature was expanded. Russian
dwellings were built in the European manner
and the interior of these buildings weirdly
united the features of the old and new style
of living |
