Swedish War: Russian Viewpoint

In 1740 the Prussian emperor Friedrich I decided to use the death of the Austrian emperor Karl IV as an excuse for occupying Silesia. So began the Austrian Legacy War. Prussia and France, hostile to Austria, could not attack Russia because of their treaty so pushed the war against Sweden. Long ago Sweden had desired to bring back the Baltic Sea region lost as a result of the Nystad peace treaty. Under their authority Sweden initiated the war but appeared to be less prepared for war than Russia.
The Russian fortresses Korela, Ivangorod and Sankt- Petersburg were made ready for combat. The Russian artillery had been well prepared for war since the time of Peter the Great. Action started in the Finnish coastal areas and brought rapid success to the Russian army. According to the peace treaty agreed in Turku Sweden granted a small part of the Finnish lands in its possession to Russia and confirmed anew the requirements of the Nystad peace.
