Erik Sederholm travelled to
Tallinn with his son Johan in 1734. Tallinn was an
important trade town, and many things were
exported to Helsinki from Tallinn. The most
important export from Tallinn to Sweden was
grain. Grain was first exported to Stockholm
and from there it was taken to the different
Swedish towns.
Johan
later recalled the journey in his memoirs:
" I got the chance to travel to Tallinn
where I met merchant von Währen, who had
employed my dear mother, and who together with
another merchant called Degerholtz were my
godparents. |
|
| The first did not only show me kindness,
but gave me on our return 10 roubles, two
pounds of hackled linen and five cubits of
green cloth, together with other supplies that
included clothes used by von Währen’s son;
all these I gave to my dear parents who
divided them with me and my siblings."
