KS-ratio is a Finnish method
called KSUHDE to
evaluate traffic signal control using the well-known V/C (volume/capacity)
-ratio.
Basically KS-ratio is based on the same method used in most traffic
signal handbooks. In addition the critical pedestrian crosswalks, if
any, are also considered. This makes the KS-ratio useful especially in
city areas, where pedestrians often play important role in the traffic
signal planning. |
|
INPUT DATA |
- Number of lanes in
junction
- Traffic volumes
- Lengths of ped. crosswalks
- Conflicting movements
- Cycle time
- Length of minimum green
- Average lost time per stage
All input is given in a special form, which also checks the
possible data errors. |

OUTPUT
RESULTS |
- V/C
(volume/capacity) ratio
- Critical movements for the
V/C-ratio
- Effect of any movement to the
V/C ratio
- Green time needed for all
movements
Output results are presented in a visual table, which can be
directly attached to the report |

EXAMPLES
Basic example
Small T-junction
Comparisons
of junction layout on KS-ratio (N.A.)
Kaupintie / Näyttelijäntie
3-stage X-junction (N.A.)
Vihdintie / Konalalantie
Large 4-stage junction (N.A.)
Helsinginkatu/Opera (N.A.) Inbound and outbound flows |

KS-RATIO IS
FAST
Collection and preparation of input data for
the calculation of one junction takes only 5-15 minutes
depending on the size of the junction and the complexity of
signal control

COMPARE SCHEMES
You can easily compare the signal
control function of several planning schemes and also save the
best alternatives as files for future.

NEW
OPTIONS FOR THE
KS-RATIO ver 3.1
- Saturation flow has been now adjusted for short extra lanes
- Saturation flow of turning traffic has been adjusted because of pedestrians
yielded on the same stage
- Pedestrian green time calculations has been changed.
