Evaluation of Traffic Signal Control using KS-ratio

KS-ratio  is a Finnish method called  KSUHDE to evaluate traffic signal control using the well-known V/C (volume/capacity) -ratio.     

Basically KS-ratio is based on the same method used in most traffic signal handbooks. In addition the critical pedestrian crosswalks, if any, are also considered. This makes the KS-ratio useful especially in city areas, where pedestrians often play important role in the traffic signal planning. 

INPUT DATA

- Number of lanes in junction
- Traffic volumes
- Lengths of ped. crosswalks
- Conflicting movements
- Cycle time
- Length of minimum green
- Average lost time per stage

All input is given in a special form, which also checks the possible data errors.

OUTPUT RESULTS

- V/C (volume/capacity) ratio
- Critical movements for the
  V/C-ratio 
- Effect of any movement to the 
  V/C ratio
- Green time needed for all
  movements 

Output results are presented in a visual table, which can be directly attached to the report
