Evaluation of traffic signal control using KS-ratio

1. Background data

Input the number and the name of the junction and also some description of the evaluation case to the first three fields. The other fields contain characteristics of traffic flow and signal control data. Mostly you can leave these as they are.

Remember to check the total number of the movements (vehicle approaches and pedestrian crosswalks) in the last field of the table. You can add and remove movements later, too. Update the number of movements pressing the left side button below the table. The right side button updates the table with the default values.

Don't use special characters like & or +    Charaters as   . , ; -   can be used, however.

Traffic flow characteristics   Central area Other area
Lane saturation flow   1800 a/h 1950 a/h

Traffic signal characteristics   Basic junctions Large junctions

2. Vehicle approaches and pedestrian crosswalks

Input data for each movement, eg. vehicle approach and pedestrian crosswalk in each row. Select the movement type using the option button.

Describe the turning movements like Mary Street LT' or Mike Road RT. Don't use special characters like & or +    Charaters as   . , ; -   can be used, however.

Finally press the left side button below the table to update the movement names to the last table. The right side key updates the table with the default values.

3.  Movement conflict table

Two movements are conflicting if they can not have green signal simultaneously. Cross each pair of the conflicting movements in the table.

Instead of being conlicting a turning movement may have to yield some other movement. If so, the number of the movement to be yielded must input in the last column of the row of the yielding movement.

To check the input in all the tables press the left side button below the table. The right side key removes all the conflict and yielding data from the table.

4.  Computing of KS-ratio

Press the left side button to start the computing of KS-ratio The program first checks the input data and gives error messages, if any.

Pressing the button on the right starts the saving process of KS-data. Using this process you can save your data as a basic sheet to your KS-file and later bring it back to the KS-input form
