Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall, which is located in the centre of Helsinki, was
inaugurated on 4 June 1928. For decades it was the only public indoor pool
in Finland. It was acquired by the City of Helsinki in 1967.
Yrjönkatu Swimming
Hall is an impressive example of the 1920's classicism and it is an
important building historically as well as architecturally. Over the
decades the hall has retained its original appearance. After a thorough
renovation which began in 1997, the hall was reopened to the public in
October 1999.
There are separate
pool hours for men and women. Swimming is allowed with or without swimming
suit. Swimming with swimming suit has been allowed since September 2001.
