Where and how do I find a home providing service for my mother?
I´d like to know more about rehabilitation for elderly.
Whom should I turn to when I want to change my will?

Senior Info offers information and counselling to elderly persons in social- and health services, housing, cultural activities and leisure. The Info was established as a part of the UN "Year of the Elderly" by the  Social Service Center of Helsinki, in 1999. The aim is to assist and support old people in finding information and to help them to look it up. Information is part of the preventive work among the elderly in Helsinki.

Our service is based on the customers needs and we have made it easy to contact us. Most people just drop in and present their problems without booking an appointment . We have no phone-hours and the counselling is confidential. Especially older people prefer to call us instead of visiting us. The relatives are very active customers as well and need information. Lately other co-workers and students have become important customers too.

The most often asked questions relate to different  housing possibilities and especially to service housing.  It is important that customers are given information about  the options they have, in order  to stay at home as long as they like and to live as independently as possible. Excercising and rehabilitation are often discussed matters, as are recreation, health and help at home.

Most of the public – and private – information is on the Internet. Our task is also to try to reduce fears and encourage elderly persons to use the computer so that they can look for information by themselves. We have our own Internet-pages, and computers for free use. Voluntary workers assist  customers weekly in using their e-mail, internet or mobile phone.

There is a growing need to discover new ways to do preventive work in Helsinki, since  within 10 years the amount of +85 years is rapidly growing. For that reason we have started some preventive projects:

  • Preventive house-calls for the elderly, who are not in home care

  • Rehabilitation Counselling for the Seniors, by appointment
