• A new urban area just 10 minutes from the city centre
will be constructed. Schools, day-care centres, a social
centre, serviced flats, a public library and a sports centre
will be built. There are also preliminary plans for a
church.
• The shores will be developed into public areas with
beach promenades, cafeterias and marinas.
• Jätkäsaari is at a walking distance from the city centre.
Three tram lines will be constructed, as well as a motorway
connection from the west.
• The passenger harbour will remain in Jätkäsaari. Business
premises and services will be built along the feeder
roads and in the passenger harbour. A new landmark
Crusell Bridge is under construction.
The container sea of Jätkäsaari has sunken into history! A new urban district of Helsinki
can now be built next to the inner city, for the cargo port formerly occupying the area
has now been transferred to Vuosaari. Homes for some 16 000 and workplaces for some
6 000 people will be built in Jätkäsaari.
In Jätkäsaari you get to experience marine ambiance together with varied possibilities of activities. The pedestrian and bicycle routes by the sea open vistas to the seascape and breathes international port atmosphere.
Streets, sheltered squares and parks with cafés invite Helsinki residents and people from nearby areas to leisure activities. The shops and other services in stone bases enliven the streetscape of Jätkäsaari.
Hyväntoivonpuisto park winding through Jätkäsaari invites people to spend leisured or active spare time. Many of Jätkäsaari residences will have an extensive view to the park or the sea.
