Statistics and Information ServicesThe Unit for Statistics and Information Services maintains and develops databases, produces basic statistics, projections and thematic statistics, provides information services and draws up comparisons between cities. The unit emphasises timeliness and reliability in statistics and information services. Facts and figures about areas and phenomenaThe Helsinki statistics describe living conditions and business life in Helsinki in terms of past, present and future. Small area statistics bring information closer to the inhabitants. Statistical comparisons describe Helsinki compared with other Finnish and European cities. Thematic statistics form a part of the information production requested for the city’s future strategies and planning, and are drawn up on various topical issues. The thematic statistics are often published in English, as well. The aim of international statistics co-operation is to promote access to comparable urban data. Scandinavian co-operation has the longest traditions, but today many other European cities have gained an increasing role in this co-operation, and so have international organisations and societies.
